Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP)

© BTNEP: Barataria Terrebonne National Est (10 Feb. 2004)
The Barataria-Terrebonne estuarine complex is located between the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers South of Louisiana. The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program was one of the 28 institutions under the Association of National Estuary Programs umbrella that was created in 1987 by amendments to the Clean Water Act to identify, restore and protect nationally significant estuaries of the United States. Its challenge is to move forward as good stewards of the natural resources that remain within the estuary complex. The program is focusing on the following issues to affect change and understanding of this complex system: Habitat, living resources, water quality, cultural heritage and economic development.
