Fish Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory

Source: http://www.ag.auburn.edu (15 June, 2004)
The Fish Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology Laboratory at Auburn University is one of the most active laboratories in development and application of DNA fingerprinting technologies in fish. Understanding the genetics, genomes and traits of aquatic organisms is the fundamental objective of the laboratory. The laboratory conducts research to understand the genetic variation of domestic catfish, and has cloned various important genes from catfish that may be useful for biotechnology, e.g., the growth hormone. They are also conducting research on genetic resources of catfish in the wild populations in Alabama.
