Gil McRae is the director of the Florida Marine research Institute (FMRI). Prior to taking this position he served as the research administrator for the Ecosystem Assessment and Restoration section at FMRI, overseeing the state’s coral reef, seagrass, red tide and fish health research programs. He began his career at FMRI in 1995 as an associate research scientist in the Aquatic Health group. He also was a research scientist in the Fisheries Stock Assessment group, and served as interim research administrator for FMRI’s Endangered and Threatened Species section. McRae has held research positions for natural resource management agencies at the state, federal and international levels and is a special graduate faculty member in the Department of Marine Science at the University of South Florida.
