Madden Photo provided by Dr. Madden Institution(s) / Organization(s): University of Texas Marine Science Institute (MSI or UTMSI), University of Texas at Austin (UT) Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve Dr. Madden received a B.A. in biology from Augustana College in 2002 and recently completed a Ph.D. in marine science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2007. Her thesis involved the foraging behaviors of Weddell seals in the Antarctic fast-ice. Kiersten was also awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellowship, which allowed her to focus on strengthening partnerships between GK-12 educators and researchers. She also has experience in biological surveys, environmental education and restoration. One of Kiersten's primary duties as Stewardship Coordinator for the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) will be to improve coastal land use planning through decision support tools. Her other duties include: enhance animal rescue programs, conduct site profile of Mission-Aransas NERR, improve land protection and maintain marine debris collection program.
