Conservation Genetics of Carcharhinus limbatus

Mitochondrial and nuclear DNA fragments are being investigated to determine useful markers to detect intraspecific variation in blacktip sharks. Samples collected from the western, southern, and eastern Gulf of Mexico will be genetically compared with sharks from the Atlantic, Pacific, and other regions across the distribution of this species. This project will result in data needed for the management of this species in Texas waters and across its distribution.
