National Wetlands Biogeochemical Database (NWBD)

Copyright 2001 Wetland Biogeochemistry Laboratory
The National Wetland Biogeochemical Database (NWBD) is an effort to locate, collect and compile existing biogeochemical information on wetlands of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. This database will be used to guide development of the Nutrient Criteria Technical Guidance Manual for Wetlands. The Nutrient Criteria Technical Guidance Manual for Wetlands along with guidance manuals for lakes and reservoirs, rivers and streams, and estuarine and coastal marine areas, are being developed to provide water-body-type-specific technical guidance that can be used to asses potential nutrient-related trophic state impairment and to develop region-specific nutrient criteria to help address pollution problems.

When complete, the NWBD will provide a reference data set that can be queried at different regional, community, or temporal scales. Using this information, a summary of existing data on mean, range, deviation and other descriptive statistics of various wetland biogeochemical parameters can be assessed. Sampling density by region or community type can also be assessed. Water column and soil biogeochemical parameters will include common forms of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Carbon and Sulfur, Metals, Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, pH, Alkalinity, Turbidity, Hardness, Conductivity, and Salinity.
