Follets Island
From: The Handbook of Texas Online, 2003; Great American Trails, 2003.

Follets Island is located in Brazoria County, Texas. The island is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico to the east and Christmas Bay to the west. It was formerly known as the Velasco Peninsula, and the north end has been joined with what was formerly San Luis Island. The island protects Christmas Bay, Mud and Moodys islands from the storms and tides of the Gulf of Mexico. Major storms and hurricanes have caused extensive beach and dune erosion on the island. The beaches on Follets Island are popular with people who walk, drive, and bike the shore to fish, birdwatch, camp or enjoy to picnic.
