Bahía de Cabañas

Cabañas is located on the Northwest coast of the province of La Habana, Cuba. It is considered the most protected bay in the world due to its narrow mouth, which connects to the Gulf of Mexico, and numerous cays.

In the past, institutions such as the Center for Fisheries Research (CIP; acronym in spanish for Centro de Investigaciones Pesqueras) have conducted studies, which have resulted in the selection of areas suitable for mariculture, taking into account geography, bathymetry, and meteorological and oceanographic events. Based on these parameters and along other areas in the Cuban North coast, Bahía de Cabañas was selected as an ideal site.
