The Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Marinas del Instituto Politécnico Nacional (CICIMAR-IPN) is an institution associated to the Federal Government, created in 1976. Its mission is to form human resources of the highest academic level and develop scientific and technological research in the field of marine sciences, in order to contribute to problems resolution and for an the integrated development of Mexico.
Academically it is formed by four departments: Fisheries and marine biology, technology development, oceanography, and plankton and marine ecology.
CICIMAR offers two graduate programs:
- Masters in Marine Resources Management
- Doctorate in Marine Sciences
It also has an area that offers external services, a direct mechanism by which the institution transfers research results to benefit society.
The center has a national range of action with an international transcendence in several lines of research.
