The Instituto de Ciencias Marinas y Pesquerías (ICIMAP) was moved to the city of Boca del Rio, Veracruz. It was originally established in May 2000, and formerly called Centro de Ecología y Pesquerías, in Xalapa, Veracruz.
The mission of ICIMAP is to address excellence in research and academic topics related to the aquatic environment, fisheries resources and their exploitation. Likewise, it aims to train specialized human resources at the technical level, decision making, and especially graduate students. Mentoring and direct teaching, by specialized instructors from different institutions, is intended to facilitate and formalize the transfer and understanding of information and problems of the components of the fisheries process. Finally, it is intended to apply the basic knowledge generated in the research to rationalize the use of resources and use the information generated by their exploitation.
