Associate Professor, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography

Dr. Brandes has expertise in the use of light stable isotopes in ecology, nutrient cycling, biogeochemistry and carbon diagenesis. He is a pioneer in the use of X-ray microscopy to examine marine particulate samples and manages the Skidaway Isotope ratio mass spectrometry facility. His interests lie in determining source and alteration patterns of nitrogen compounds, organic matter in marine sediments and water columns, and the transport of organic matter from terrestrial to marine environments.
