Short (1991) considered Dicyema typus of McConnaughey and Kritzler (1952) collected off St. Augustine, Florida, to represent what was later described as D. typoides. Short (1991) independently collected and reported D. typoides from St. Augustine, Florida, as well as listing his records from Bimini, Bahama Islands, Bermuda Island, and the GMx.
