Tanhuijo is a platform type reef that forms part of the Tuxpan Reef System, located at 18 km of the Tuxpan River Mouth in the Gulf of Mexico. Its terrace has a navigable channel with a West to East orientation. The mouth of the channel is 11m deep and it ends a short distance of the interior crest in the East section. A plateau develops in the leeward at a depth of 9 m. The South side reaches a depth of 15 m with a varied terrain. The region is characterized by sub-humid to humid climates of high rainfall and substantial mainland drainage.
