Cat Island is a sandy barrier island with a unique and distinct ‘T’-shaped configuration, located 10 km off the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It is one on a chain of islands lying between Mississippi Sound (N) and Chandeleur Sound (S). It is the westernmost point of the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

Community Structure

The ecological community on Cat Island includes grasses and marshes. The island also provides excellent feeding, resting and wintering habitat for numerous types of migratory bird species, such as the brown pelican, white pelican and cormorants.
