Dr. Caillouet retired from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service, Southeast Fisheries Science Center's Laboratory in Galveston, Texas USA. in June 1998. During his 34-yr career in academia and NOAA (25 yrs), his research focused on Penaeid shrimp biology, population dynamics, and mariculture, environmental impacts of energy development and production in the Gulf of Mexico, and Kemp's ridley sea turtle population dynamics and recovery.  After retiring, he remained engaged in research and publication as an independent marine fisheries scientist-conservation volunteer, focusing on Penaeid shrimp and Kemp's ridley stock assessments. He is a Fellow Emeritus of the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists, and a member of the IUCN Marine Turtle Specialist Group.
