Dr. Chernoff is an ichthyologist and the Robert Schumann Professor of Environmental Studies at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He specializes in ecology, evolution and biogeography of freshwater fishes in South America, population genetics of post-glacial recolonization, morphological evolution and conservation of aquatic ecosystems.

Prior to becoming a professor, Dr. Chernoff was a curator of the department of zoology at the Field Museum in Chicago for 17 years.
