Area of Expertise
Ecology and Restoration of Forested Wetlands of the Southeastern United States
Education
  • Ph.D. Ecology, University of Georgia, Georgia, U.S.A., 1994

Dr. Keeland's is a retired researcher with the U.S.G.S. National Wetlands Research Center.

His research has focused on studies of the effects of hydrologic regime on forest dynamics in cypress-tupelo swamps and bottomland hardwood forests, and the restoration of forested wetlands of the southeast. Dendrochronological techniques are being used to determine the long-term effects of hydrologic regime changes on individual tree growth and community dynamics. The major goal of this research is to develop an understanding of how water management activities affect reproduction, recruitment, and long-term productivity in forested wetland ecosystems.
