I am a fisheries ecologist with specific interests in reproductive biology, behavioral ecology, population dynamics, fisheries management, and conservation biology. My research is motivated by a desire to contribute to the advancement of science and to provide meaningful results for practical use in fisheries management and marine conservation. Using a blend of innovative field, laboratory, and analytical techniques, I focus on fundamental and applied issues related to fishes and fisheries that range in scale from individual species to entire ecosystems, including:

1. Spatial and temporal interactions between fishes, fisheries, coastal habitats, marine protected areas, and endangered species.

2. Proximate (e.g. social, environmental) and ultimate (e.g. phylogenetic) mechanisms driving the evolution of mating behavior, sex allocation, reproductive development, and life history patterns in fishes.

3. Effects of variations in behavioral, demographic, and life history traits in fishes on their response to fishing pressure, management regulations, and environmental conditions (e.g., climate change).
