Area of Expertise
Wetland Sedimentation Processes; Sea-level Rise
Education
  • Ph.D. in Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, U.S.A., 2000
  • B.S. in Environmental Science, University of Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama, U.S.A., 1992

Dr. Perez's research currently focuses on sedimentation and accretion processes in coastal wetland habitats and the ability of coastal marshes to keep pace with sea-level rise. This research is of special importance in coastal Louisiana, where relative sea-level rise (eustatic sea-level rise + subsidence) rates can exceed 1 cm/yr. Other research interests include nutrient transport and retention within estuarine and wetland systems; the role episodic events such as hurricanes, tropical storms, and cold fronts play in coastal wetland management and sustainability; and coastal restoration and management.

Dr. Perez is currently a coastal and wetland ecologist at CH2M HILL
