Dr. Aldana Aranda conducts research on mollusc aquaculture, including nutrition, reproduction and larvae culture. Her study species are Strombus gigas in the Caribbean, Melongena corona in Yucatan, the oyster Crassostrea virgina in the coastal lagoons of the Gulf of Mexico, and the mussel Ischadium recurvus. She works with ecophysiology and bioenergetics applied to mollusc culture to improve production.

She has 65 peer-reviewed publications, has coordinated three international conferences, is the international coordinator of the CYTED-CONACYT Program, is a member of scientific committees of several organizations and of the Board Directors of the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute, a member of the Academia Mexicana de Ciencias, and president of the Association of Marine Laboratories of the Caribbean.
