Dr. Kearns's general interests are satellite oceanography, ocean circulation dynamics, and oceanographic instrumentation. Recent projects include the improvement of sea surface temperature (SST) and ocean color estimates from space-based instruments, the dynamics of the North Atlantic Current, long-term changes both in global SST and the local circulation in the North Atlantic, and the construction of climatologies from hydrographic and satellite data sources.
