Dr. Brooke Shipley is currently the chief scientist for the Artificial Reef Program within the Coastal Fisheries Division of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The program is involved with rigs to reefs, ships to reefs, nearshore reefing, and biological monitoring of the reefs within Texas state waters.

Previously, I worked for the NOAA Fisheries, Mississippi Laboratory from 2003 to 2009 as a Research Fishery Biologist. Included in my tasks were numerous ship-board biological surveys such as: Groundfish trawling, reef fish and shark longlining, and shark tag and recapture.

My Ph.D. research focused on spatial arrangement of artificial reefs using mathematical models of red snapper dynamics. I utilized bioenergetics, Ecopath with Ecosim and Ecospace, and fuzzy logic to determine optimal spacing between small reefs.
