Field of Focus
- Global Atmospheric Research
Area of Expertise
Large-scale Ocean Circulation and Coastal Dynamics
Education
- B.S. Moscow State University, Fluid Mechanics, Moscow, Russia, 1954
- Ph.D. Institute of Oceanology of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia, 1957
Research Interests
- Large-scale ocean circulation
- Coastal dynamics
I am primarily interested in process oriented studies. In my research I am using both analytical and numerical methods of investigations.
Currently I am working on the following two projects:
- Physical processes controlling the water, heat, and salt exchange between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The basic tool: A regional model based on the Princeton Ocean Model.
- Model skill assessment based on the comparison of observed and simulated data.
The main question is how to use the observed data for a model validation. Two different numerical models are analyzed: Naval Research Laboratory Layered Ocean Model (NLOM) and HydroQual Estuarine and Coastal Ocean Model (ECOM).
