Dr. Graham is Chair and Professor of Marine Science at The University of Southern Mississippi. His research program is broadly aimed at processes that influence the production and distribution of coastal marine plankton. The principal area his research is the ecology and biology of gelatinous zooplankton. Current research activities in this area are related to the potential response of gelatinous zooplankton predators to short and long-term changes in nutrient inputs from watersheds adjacent to the northern Gulf of Mexico, to climate variability and to fishing activities.

Current Gulf Research:
- Evaluate the Impacts of Oil, Methane and Dispersant on Pelagic Food Web Structure and Organic Matter Cycling Along the Alabama Coast (NGI,BP-GRI)

- FOCAL: Fisheries Oceanography of Coastal Alabama (ADCNR-MRD)

GoMRI-funded projects:

- Recovery: Plankton (Year One Block Grant, MESC)

- Does the 'Priming Effect' Caused by the DWH Oil-spill Result in Increased Microbial and Zooplankton Consumption of Labile and Refractory Dissolved Organic Carbon? Phase II (Year One Block Grant, NGI)
